Rachel Dax is currently developing her trilogy The Legend Of Pope Joan into a screenplay. Watch this space to hear progress on the film version.
Although there have been two other films (1972 – USA and 2008-Germany) and countless written tales about this amazing historical figure, the beauty of the Pope Joan story is that the details of her life are so scant that each writer can draw from them any interpretation they wish. Rachel Dax was very convinced by Peter Stanford’s research in The She Pope (1999), which argues that Joan really did exist and reigned as Pope, disguised as a man from 853-855 CE.
Rachel’s screenplay draws upon her own theological background to bring about a unique vision of this woman that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally engaging.
